Feb. 9-10 Art Plans

I would like to finish our group grid drawings this week. So this means we will have to use our class time wisely and work hard individually and as a team!

Please come to class prepared with the following

1. pencil, eraser, sharpener
2. folder with photocopy picture in it
3. finished drawing (not value yet) on your first sheet of paper
4. 2nd paper with 3 inch grid lightly drawn on it- ready to start your next section of drawing during class. 

It was super fun to see you all participate in Pictionary last week. I wish I would have taken more pictures! You all did great! :) Look how Rekan is so clever by using the butterfly-rainbow symbol from Mazi for you to guess "Supermarket" 

Again, we are proud of the improvements you made during January. We look forward to see how well you do this month! It starts with coming to class prepared! You know I'm going to check if you have your supplies first thing on Wednesday morning :).

Art This Week- Jan. 26-27

Just a reminder for you this week:

Bring with you to class
- Pencil, eraser, sharpener
- ARN #5- A poster sharing a message of how you and others can help change the world. An issue going on in the world, Iraq, Duhok, or CSM.
- Folder with photocopied picture, and drawing paper with 3 inch grid on it

I REALLY want to give you a :) tomorrow! SO please come to class prepared!

Happy New Year!

Great job 7th Grade students you made it through half the year :)  It was a fun but fast first half of the year. Now we have a NEW START. Don't you like new starts? You have a chance to think back on what you did well and also how you can improve.  I hope you all took time to do that over break. Between eating chips and watching TV :)

As you already know, all your teachers have a few goals for you during the month of January.
1. Come to class everyday prepared with the right supplies.
2. Keep the room clean.

For Art this means:
Coming to class EVERY Wednesday and Thursday with a pencil, eraser, sharpener (with collector), ARN, and a folder.
Art can be messy sometimes, and we don't have a room that makes clean-up easy (clay for example... you remember, right?) So if we are going to do a "messy" project we need to all work together and be respectful of the school's property, and each other.

So here's to a NEW year! Let's make it a great one!


Deal?!?!

Name Design

For our first project, I asked students to be creative with a Name Design that would illustate who they are.  Students did a great job! Here are a few!

 Shana did a great job filling up her page and creatively drawing qualities about herself within her letters. She also did a great job adding value by how hard/soft she pressed with her colored pencils to really make her design POP!

 Lozen did a great job making a background in his design while he used text in his design to show who he is!

 Dalya did a great job of being creative by using mixed-media (or other supplies besides markers/colored pencils) She used stickers, magazine cut-outs, or other images to show who she was.  She also did a great job of making her name stand out by outlining her letters with black marker.

Benny choose a creative way to do his name. He drew a scene that incorporates all of his favorite things! He did a great job of clearly illustrating what he enjoys doing!

Helen designed her name in big bold letters where she described herself in the letters. She also choose to use supplies other than what most people did.  Black sharpie, and white out in the background. Very cool idea!

All students did a great job and it made me excited to see what they will create the rest of this year!

Perspective

We will be spending a few weeks coming up working on the technique of perspective! Making something look 3D (three dimensional) on a 2D (two dimensional)surface and how this technique shows distance!

This is a very important lesson to learn as it will help make your Art look *professional*
See how these famous artists used perspective in their masterpieces?


Masaccio's "Trinty" is believed to be the first seen painting to include the technique of perspective. Can you figure out where his vanishing point was?

Do you see how the people closer to the vanishing point are painted smaller to show they are further away? See how the lines on the ground are converging (orthogonals) to the vanishing point? Do you see where the horizon line is?


You will complete 2 projects in Perspective:

1. ARN #2- Draw 15 cubes, 5 that have cut-outs The only lines that should be used are vertical, horizontal, orthogonal! Use a ruler to get these lines perfect (discussed in class) We will start this in class, but you will finish it during your own time.  Due Wed. October 27th- 10 points
2. Fantasy Room- BE CREATIVE, BE NOVEL, BE UNIQUE! What do you want your Fantasy Room to have in it if money was NOT an issue. Have Fun creating your space! (Will be completed DURING class, unless you do not use your class time wisely) 50 pts.
